AeroView Intelligence Dashboard — User Guide

AeroView is the Airspace Acuity dashboard: an interactive map of every wind turbine and non-wind energy structure ever filed with the FAA (OE/AAA), combined with the airspace that governs them — Military Training Routes (MTRs), Part 77 surfaces, NEXRAD radar zones, NAVAIDs, airports, and more.


1. Getting Started

  • Log in at airspaceacuity.com/login.
  • Free tier gets access to a sampled dataset (sample_turbines).
  • Pro unlocks the full national dataset and exports.
  • Enterprise adds Team Accounts, the Project ASN Watchlist, the Terminated Filing Database, AI Agent (MCP) integration, KMZ/KML site boundaries, and intersection analysis. Enterprise features carry a ▸ badge.

2. Dashboard Layout

The dashboard has three view modes, switched at the top-left:

  • MAP — the map + data table (this guide's focus)
  • ANALYTICS — charts and statistics
  • WATCHLIST — your tracked project ASNs (Enterprise)

The top toolbar holds, left to right: the status filter, year filter, min/max height, + FILTERS (expands the full filter set), Clear, the search bar, and the map layer buttons. The Legend sits at the bottom-right of the map.


3. Navigating the Map

  • Pan by dragging, zoom with scroll/pinch or the +/- buttons at the top-right. resets the view to the continental US.
  • Map styles — switch between Base (light), Street, and Satellite.
  • Legend — every marker color is explained; click a status in the legend to filter the map and table to that status instantly.

4. Filters & Search

  • Status dropdown — multi-select with live counts (DNH, Evaluating, Studying, Terminated, etc.).
  • Min/Max Height — AGL feet, sliders/inputs with debounce.
  • + FILTERS — state, city, sponsor, sponsor company, nearest airport, date-entered range, expiration range, structure type, region, case type, petition flags, and more. Clear resets everything.
  • Search bar supports:
    • a single ASN (e.g. 2024-WTE-1500-OE) — flies to and selects it
    • an ASN range (2024-WTE-1500:1525-OE) — highlights every ASN in the range and fits them all in view. Click empty map space to clear.
    • city, airport, and MTR route names (e.g. VR142)

5. Map Overlays (toolbar buttons)

Each overlay button has sub-toggles that appear just below it.

✈ Airports

Shows airport markers — PUB (public, blue), PVT (private, gray), MIL (military, red) — plus runway polygons. Toggle each type independently; click any airport for its details and runway list.

📐 Part 77

FAA imaginary surfaces for 6,300+ airports, color-coded in the legend: Apt Protection Zone, Inst. Approach, Imaginary Surf, VGSI, Heliport.

🎯 MTR

Military Training Routes. Toggle IR / VR / SR independently. Click a route's centerline for its altitude floor/ceiling and width; the segment highlights on the map. Search an MTR route name to highlight it.

📡 NEXRAD

WSR-88D radar sites (amber diamonds) with three risk rings: 3 km no-build, 18 km high-risk RLOS clutter, 36 km consultation. The Buffer sub-toggle (on by default) shows/hides the rings. Click a site for details.

🧭 NAVAIDs

VOR / VOR-DME / TACAN / VORTAC stations (indigo + symbols). The Buffer sub-toggle shows the 2,000 ft core and the 2 NM consultation ring. Click a NAVAID for its ident, class, and location.

🏗 Terminated / USGS

Toggle the terminated filing overlay (red ✕) and the USWTDB dataset (triangles, amber < 500 ft / red ≥ 500 ft). Clicking an ASN dot opens one combined popup: if the USWTDB layer is on and a co-located record exists, a "USWTDB" section appears beneath the ASN info; the Digital Obstacle File (DOF) layer adds a "DOF" section the same way. Clicking a USWTDB/DOF marker with no ASN at that location opens that layer's standalone popup.

● Digital Obstacle File (DOF)

The FAA Digital Obstacle File — small gray dots for every WINDMILL and MET obstacle the FAA has on record (dense, so it appears when zoomed in past zoom 6). DOF heights are the authoritative "as-built" figures: clicking a dot with no co-located ASN opens a popup with the study number, AGL/MSL heights, type, location, lighting, and marking; clicking a co-located ASN shows the DOF record as a section inside the ASN popup.


6. Map Tools

The tool palette (top-left of the map):

  • ⊙ Select — click a turbine to open its ASN info panel (draggable); click a status in the legend to filter
  • ⬡ Polygon — click to draw a project boundary; double-click to finish. The table filters to structures inside it.
  • 📏 Measure — click two points for distance in mi/km/ft/nm
  • 📍 Pin + Radius — drop a pin and set a radius; structures inside the circle are filtered in the table
  • ▲ Elevation point — click anywhere on the map to drop an elevation marker; each point fetches the exact USGS 3DEP ground elevation (meters). Click a dropped marker to remove it, or use Clear in the banner to reset all points.

7. Site Boundaries — Upload KMZ (▸ Enterprise)

Click 📐 Upload KMZ to open the boundary panel:

  1. Drop a .kml/.kmz file (or click to browse). It draws on the map.
  2. 🎯 Zoom To flies the map to the boundary.
  3. Name + Save it — saved boundaries appear in the Saved list and persist in your browser (and the backend) for later sessions.
  4. Inside boundary filters the table to structures inside the shape. Within X mi of center adds a radius buffer from the boundary's center (best for roughly circular sites). Within X mi of perimeter includes structures within that distance of the boundary edge — the right choice for irregular shapes, since it follows the outline exactly.
  5. Close hides the boundary but keeps it saved; Load restores it.

8. Intersection Analysis (▸ Enterprise)

From the boundary panel, click 🔍 Analyze Intersections. AeroView checks your boundary against:

  • 📋 Previous Filings — active + terminated filings inside the boundary, with View in List → to load them into the table
  • 🛩️ MTR Conflicts — corridors with a floor below 1,500 ft AGL
  • 🏛️ Part 77 Airspace — surface overlaps with area
  • 📡 NEXRAD Radar Zones — 3/18/36 km risk levels
  • 🧭 NAVAIDs — stations within 2 NM, tiered 2,000 ft core vs consultation

💾 Save Analysis stores the result on the boundary — reopen it anytime via the Analysis link in the Saved list. Closing the panel (✕) resets the list.


9. The Data Table

  • Sortable columns (ASN, status, state, city, height, sponsor)
  • Pagination (500/page), CSV export (visible or polygon-selected, up to 10k)
  • Click any row → the ASN info panel opens on the map
  • Resizable columns and sidebar (drag the edges)

10. Analytics Mode

Toggle ANALYTICS in the toolbar. Charts: Filings Over Time, Status Breakdown, Top States, Top Companies, Height Distribution, Structure Types. Charts reflect the current filters — set filters first, then switch to Analytics for a filtered view.

Filing Forensics (▸ Enterprise)

The Filing Forensics panel predicts what a developer will actually build from what they've filed. It measures each company's historical behavior — what share of their filings in each height band became real turbines, at what heights and capacities — and applies it to their pending filings. Example: a developer files 150 ASNs in the 600–750' band; their history shows ~71% of those become turbines at ~4.2 MW each → forecast: ≈107 turbines, ≈450 MW.

  • Build rates by band — per-company table of filings, build rate, raw vs. padded height adjustments, and expected error, for each filing band
  • Project forecast — enter a project name or an ASN range (e.g. 2024-WTE-1500:1520-OE) → filings / built / dead / pending counts, expected turbine count (with range), and expected capacity in MW (with range)

Estimates from historical filings — not guarantees. Verify before making material decisions.


11. Watchlist Mode (▸ Enterprise)

WATCHLIST mode shows your tracked project ASNs with full enriched data (state, city, height, type, sponsor, company, airport, dates). Add/remove ASNs directly in the dashboard — including ASN ranges (2024-WTE-100:150-OE adds all 51 in one action). The Daily DNH Watchlist emails you when a tracked ASN's FAA status changes.

Form 7460-2 columns (project tracking):

  • PCN (Pre-Const Notice) — FAA Form 7460-2 Part 1. The value is the number of days before construction start by which the PCN must be filed (e.g., 60d prior). Construction may not begin until the PCN is filed.
  • TON (Top-Out Notice) — FAA Form 7460-2 Part 2, due within the shown number of days after construction reaches its greatest height (e.g., 5d after).

DNH expiration reminders: tracked ASNs with an expiration date receive automated email reminders at 90, 60, 30, and 10 days before expiration (60/30/10 if the PCN is already filed). To preserve the DNH, construction must have started and Form 7460-2 must be received by the FAA before the expiration date — or an extension must be e-filed at least 15 days prior. Every reminder is sent one week before the listed mark as a buffer; the email states this so the full window remains available.


12. Account & API Access

  • /account — manage your subscription, team members (Enterprise), and API keys
  • API keys (aa_api_…) — programmatic access to the turbine endpoints
  • MCP keys (aa_mcp_…) — connect AI agents to 22 spatial-analysis tools

Tips

  • Clicking empty map space clears ASN-range selections.
  • The status legend is clickable — it's the fastest way to filter.
  • Overlay sub-toggles (PUB/PVT/MIL, IR/VR/SR, and the Buffer toggles) appear under their buttons and don't move the toolbar.
  • The ASN info panel is draggable — move it if it covers your site.
